Software development and penetration testing
My name is Tomáš Barták and I am in my fourth year at SSŠVT, studying information technology with a focus on programming and database systems. I have been interested in programming and computer networks since 2020, and along the way I have gained a lot of experience and met plenty of people in the field. Since the end of 2024 I have been focusing mainly on cybersecurity and penetration testing. After my final exams I plan to continue studying at university.
I started with Python but soon moved to C# – today I am comfortable in both. I also work with JavaScript, PHP, Java, Rust and C/C++, where I am confident reading and modifying existing code. I have experience building computer networks, both on the hardware side (routers, switches, VLANs) and with server services (Active Directory, DHCP, DNS). On top of that: virtualisation, Wireshark, Nessus and my own homelab.
Over the years I have tried and learned more than would fit on this page. I hold several Cisco certifications and have real work experience behind me. At AgentFly Technologies I developed software for military unmanned systems, and I currently work at ATS-Telcom as a penetration tester and developer.
I have been doing penetration testing since the end of 2024 – first self-taught, and professionally since 2026. I learn in my own VMware labs: the first is built on Active Directory and deliberately includes older systems so that I encounter a wider range of vulnerabilities. The newer lab simulates two production networks with two domains, a VyOS router and Nessus for vulnerability scanning. For every vulnerability I first study how it works, and only then carry out the attack.
I run my own homelab at home. It is not top-of-the-line hardware, but it is more than enough for expanding my knowledge. At its core is a 26-port gigabit L2 Cisco switch, on which I experiment with VLANs, DoS protection, monitoring and other features. Alongside it there is a UPS, proper cable management and spare cabling ready for additional devices. I also have experience with Raspberry Pi and Arduino, and I understand the principles behind basic electronic components.
An open-source family of software for managing infrastructure. The first piece is HedgehogPanel – a panel for managing servers through a clear web interface, built on C# / .NET and PostgreSQL, with a daemon in Rust planned.
My website is also meant to demonstrate my experience with software development and security. Although I did not build the frontend myself, the backend and everything to do with configuration is my work.
An open-source simulation library for modelling cities, economies and societies, written in C# on .NET 10. The engine is deliberately headless – it knows the state of the world and the rules of the simulation, but not how any of it looks. It can therefore serve as the backend of a city builder as much as a simulation platform for research, teaching or analysis. It simulates the economy, population, society, infrastructure and space, with those systems influencing one another – a shortage of goods drives satisfaction down, falling trust undermines legitimacy, economic collapse triggers migration. The design rests on determinism, moddability and data-driven content. The project is at an early stage of development and is not yet usable.
Penetration tester and software developer
May 2026 – present
I joined in May 2026 for a school work placement and have been employed here since June. I work on penetration testing and software development, along with writing documentation and configuring systems.
Software development for military unmanned systems
2025
First a school work placement, then a summer job. During the placement I reverse-engineered communication over the CAN bus and looked for a way to replace the original driver, connecting through an adapter to ethernet and USB. Over the summer I then developed my own driver and integrated it into the existing system.
